Freshness & Storage
Freshness & storage
Coffee is at its best in the weeks after roasting. A little care at home keeps every cup of Marnka & Co. tasting the way it should.
How long does it last?
| Your coffee | Best enjoyed |
|---|---|
| Unopened bag | Best before 12 months from roasting (date on the bag) |
| Opened whole beans | Within about 4 to 6 weeks |
| Opened ground coffee | Within about 2 to 3 weeks |
Coffee doesn't go off after these times, but the aroma and flavour slowly fade.
Storing your coffee
Do
- Keep it in an airtight container, or roll the bag down tightly
- Store it somewhere cool, dark and dry, like a pantry
- Buy an amount you'll use within a few weeks
Avoid
- The fridge: moisture and smells get into the coffee
- Sunny benchtops and spots near the stove or kettle
- Clear jars left out in the light
Whole beans or ground?
Whole beans stay fresh longer, because grinding exposes more of the coffee to air. If you have a grinder, select whole beans and grind just before you brew. If you don't, select the grind that matches your brew method (espresso, plunger, stove top, V60 or Turkish) and we'll grind it for you.
